Unai Emery Reveals Why Pepe Didn’t Play Against Barcelona, Plan For £72m Winger

Arsenal manager, , has revealed his plan for their record-signing, Nicolas , ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Ivory Coast winger became the Gunners’ most expensive signing ever, after completing a £72million move to the Emirates from Lille last week.

The 24-year-old, who scored 35 goals in 74 Ligue 1 appearances, was left out of the Arsenal squad that was beaten 2-1 by Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Sunday.

Speaking after the defeat, Emery said he would be patient with , but intended to work with his new signing throughout the week and utilise him in someway against Newcastle United.

“Tomorrow we are going to train together.

“Each day for him [] and for us is information we can save.

“We hope he can be [available] for this match [against Newcastle next Sunday]. With him, I want to be patient.

“He is in the same situation as the other players who have been coming in the last days. For example, Lucas Torreira, after one week of training today has his first ten minutes.

“With Pepe it’s the same. It’s better to be training and be working with us,” Emery said.
