He comes from a family of footballers: His younger brothers, Azubuike and Egutu, are professional footballers, while another brother Churchill Oliseh has an adopted son named Sekou Oliseh who is also a footballer.

He was part of that Atlanta 96′ Olympic team: Oliseh played as part of golden generation of Nigerian footballers who surprisingly won gold at the Atlanta 96′ Olympic games. He played alongside Eagles legends like Jay Jay Okocha, Celestine Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke, Emmanuel Babayaro, Garba Lawal, Joseph Dosu, Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, and Wilson Oruma.
The Super Eagles job is his first as a coach in Africa: Oliseh has a UEFA Pro Licence certificate and he used that to manage two teams in Belgium. He was sports director of Eupen in 2007 while he managed Verviétois between 2008 and 2009. Coaching Nigeria will be the first time he would try his hands in Africa as a coach.
