Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is 41 years old today, September 14, 2015. GLtrends.com runs down seven things you never knew about the Delta state born tactician. 

 

He comes from a family of footballers: His younger brothers, Azubuike and Egutu, are professional footballers, while another brother Churchill Oliseh has an adopted son named Sekou Oliseh who is also a footballer.

He was part of that Atlanta 96′ Olympic team: Oliseh played as part of golden generation of Nigerian footballers who surprisingly won gold at the Atlanta 96′ Olympic games. He played alongside Eagles legends like Jay Jay Okocha, Celestine Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke, Emmanuel Babayaro, Garba Lawal, Joseph Dosu, Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, and Wilson Oruma.Oliseh, top right was an integral part of the Olympics squad

The Super Eagles job is his first as a coach in Africa: Oliseh has a UEFA Pro Licence certificate and he used that to manage two teams in Belgium. He was sports director of Eupen in 2007 while he managed Verviétois between 2008 and 2009. Coaching Nigeria will be the first time he would try his hands in Africa as a coach.

Oliseh was once sacked by Borussia Dortmund for punching a team-mate: Oliseh was known throughout his career as a fiery character as VfL Bochum team-mate Vahid Hashemian would discover. Oliseh punched the Iranian during his loan spell at Bochum from Dortmund and when his actions were reported, he was sacked.

He retired early (31 yeears old):  Despite his successful career, Oliseh retired at age 31 in January 2006. He has turned out for Julius Berger, RFC Liège, Reggiana, FC Köln, Ajax, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, VfL Bochum (loan)and finally Genk. While he fellow Atlanta 96 colleagues like Kanu, Okocha played in their late thirties, Oliseh followed the likes of Taribo West, Victor Ikpeba in retiring early.

 

He is married to a Moroccan named Hafidah and they have one son together: Oliseh married a Morroccan named Hafidah. Little is known of his personal and family life. Oliseh and his wife have one son together.

He is multi-lingual and Educated: Oliseh speaks Italian, German, Dutch, Flemish, French and English fluently. The Eagles gaffer also earned a diploma in Business Management.
