EFCC finally grant Willie Obiano bail after six days in custody

Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after six days in custody.

After he lost his immunity from arrest and prosecution, the arrest was alleged to have taken place at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022.
He had been in the EFCC’s radar for some time before he was arrested on corruption charges.
EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwujaren said
“Obiano was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including, N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote which was withdrawn in cash. Part of the funds was also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state,”
Obiano’s successor, had just handed over the reins of power to Prof Chukwuma Soludo when he was detained.
While they waited for him to comply with his bail conditions, the anti-graft agency granted the former governor administrative bail.
The EFCC also withheld his passport as a condition of his release on bail.
