‘Females Can Have Strong Careers But Must Realize That Men Are The Head’ – Tiwa Savage

In a recent interview with Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru from on radio,  pop singer Tiwa Savage shared her thoughts on the accomplishments of men and women on The Midday Show.

When she was asked about gender inequality and discrimination, her reply was comprehensive.

‘It’s real. I’m not going to say I’m completely comfortable with it but it is what it is. You have to deal with it. If it means you have to work ten times harder than your male counterparts, don’t complain about it, do what you have to do. We all celebrate people like Oprah and Mo Abudu and we don’t actually realize what they have to do to get to that point. They probably had to do 20 times than their male counterparts. Once you get there, you don’t complain about how you get there. So, whatever it is you have to do as a female, you just have to get it done.’

She goes on to declare that she didn’t agree that men and women are equal.

‘I know I’ll ruffle a few feathers but I also don’t think men and women are equal, I don’t think that’s how God created us that way… especially in the household anyway. So I think as females when we realise that yeah we can be strong in our career, but when we are home we have to realise that the man is the head of the house’.

Tiwa Savage has had great successes since her entrance into the music industry in 2010. Last year she signed a management deal with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation and is widely acclaimed as Nigeria’s most successful female artiste.

However in 2016 she had a marital crisis with her husband, Tee Billz. The issue became a public spat that saw the former artiste manager attempt suicide while Tiwa gave a tell-all interview where she expressed frustration at her husband’s ‘irresponsibility’. At the time she accused him of infidelity and refusal to pay for their son’s upkeep.

Of recent, the couple have been seen together apparently working through their issues.
