Rapper Lil Tjay reportedly shot in New Jersey robbery attempt
During an alleged robbery attempt with two of his friends, New York rapper Lil Tjay was shot just after midnight on June 22 in Bergen County.
“Resume” by Lil Tjay propelled him to fame in 2018. Four albums and EPs have been released by the rapper, including 2019’s F.N., 2020’s State of Emergency, and 2021’s Destined 2 Win.
With “Calling My Phone,” a collaboration between Lil Tjay and 6lack from the album Destined 2 Win, Lil Tjay achieved his highest-ever Billboard Hot 100 chart position to date.
Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office press release states that the incident occurred at retail mall 14 The Promenade in Edgewater.

A 22-year-old man with numerous gunshot wounds was located by the Edgewater Police Department after responding to an emergency call at 12:08 a.m. ET.
Nearby an Exxon Station, officers uncovered another person of the same age who had been shot once. Both had to be brought to the hospital for treatment.
Antoine Boyd, 22, and Jeffrey Valdez, 24, both from the Bronx, were arrested together with Mohamed Konate, 27, on counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, and firearms offenses. They are accused of firing at the rapper, whose real name is Tione Merritt.
Prosecutors said Wednesday night that Tjay was struck many times in the maelstrom, which also injured Boyd.
Prosecutors said that one victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was later categorized as stable while the other victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in “good” health.
By law enforcement sources, TMZ reported that Merritt had emergency surgery.
