Truth be told, the crops of musical artists we have now have made it almost impossible for the fame to be confined to a restricted few, like we used to have, likes of 2face Idibia, Dbanj, and co. The bigger endorsement goes to these guys alone back in the days. It is not so in 2020 anymore, with the aid of social media, streaming platforms, you might not need a promoter to get your sound across to the people. However, Nigeria has had talented singers who couldn’t match up with the expectations.
This is the 21st century, you cannot afford to be too sluggard if you want to stay on top of the musical food chain, you have to be flexible and consistent with good vibes, many singers out there who consistently dish out songs but do not make it to the larger audience, there is more to it. Its unfortunate, the sensational music art of the YBNL Lil Kesh, he had a prospect, well, he was not lucky enough. Amidst, his caliber that rose then, the oversight back then is the king now amidst the category of next rated, Kizz Daniel. Kizz has mastered his game and keep up with the ever-competitive Nigerian music atmosphere.

Well, we could say, Kizz Daniel is now in the elite group of Nigeria singers, he had proven himself worthy, unfortunately, he is just the Neymar of Nigeria music, in as much, Davido and Wizkid who are fading away like Messi and Ronaldo are still there, he might not attain the height. Come to think of it, kizz Daniel is not really bad. he has great songs, giving out awesome tracks all over his albums.
Late last year, we saw the rise of the new school artists, likes of Naira Marley, Zlatan, fireboy, Joeboy, and Rema. The spotlight was on Zlatan 2019, well, time and season happen to things, 2020 is a different ball game with a series of dramas across the globe. Rema, Joeboy, and fireboy had taken the center stage by surprise.
Now, the self-acclaimed African Giant, Burna boy, this artist has been amazing since day one, he was just not noticed. He had been disappointed with awards, everybody knows Burna boy has poor anger management. He had ghosted awards, stormed out of award ceremonies because he was not crowned. Yes, Burna is good but it’s painful when you don’t get recognized for your efforts.
Burna Boy is a product of consistency despite having petit encouragement from his clans, 2018, 2019 shaped Burna boy’s story when he released his Ye album followed by African Giant. His sound resonates with a lot across the globe. The once underdog hijacked the center stage from Wizkid and Davido, who we all accept, those two used to be our only international representative.

If surveys were to be done, many do not know Burna prior to 2018, though they knew his songs then, his Ye album was the game-changer for him. He actually deserves to call himself the African Giant.
Since the entertainment coup carried out by Burna, our major top 2 players have been inconsistent, Wizkid has been promoting his made in Lagos album for 2years or more, baba never reasons the matter finish. Wizkid, whose album was expected July was postponed reason known only to him.
Davido on the other side, however, released his album late last year, the album has been doing amazingly well. However, you and I know, this present dispensation, you have to be up and doing to remain firm.
Now, who is the real African Giant, our Burna Boy or Davido or Wizkid, this three seems to be our international representative in the male league.
Going by the stream’s awards, shows, endorsement, probably, Wizkid might take the lead. unfortunately, with the cold attitude of our own star boy Wizkid, his steps lead nowhere but relegation. The intimidating and fierce promotion spiced with the consistency of Burna boy might overshoot.
Anyways, these three deserve an award, but we do not really have a respected localized award in Nigeria, anymore. all thanks to Headies’ inconsistency and favoritism. Music artists do not rep it anymore. That is a story for another day. As Brymo had said, Grammy alone shouldn’t be the highest peak of a musical career.
Take it or leave it, Burna still retains the title of African giant, time could change, remember, nobody last forever on the throne.
